Managing Director of Andechser Molkerei Scheitz, Barbara Scheitz, and veterinarian and author Dr Anita Idel (Book: "Die Kuh ist kein Klimakiller"; translation: "The cow is no climate killer")), were awarded the Heinz Sielmann Prize of Honour. Dr.-Ing. Fritz Brickwedde, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Heinz Sielmann Foundation, honoured the outstanding commitment of the two recipients in the field of nature and species conservation. "The compatibility of economy and ecology, especially in regard to animal husbandry, is a lifelong theme and a matter close to the hearts of both award winners," emphasised the Chairman of the Heinz Sielmann Foundation's Board of Trustees.
According to the foundation, the decisive factor for the honour is the "great pioneering work that Barbara Scheitz has done in the field of sustainable entrepreneurial activity". Over the past 20 years, she has expanded and developed Andechser Molkerei Scheitz as a partner and managing director into a one hundred per cent organic company. The grazing premium that Andechser Molkerei Scheitz has been paying to organic farmers as a supplement for grazing since 2015 has been recognised. Traceability was introduced in 2008, allowing anyone interested to trace the organic dairy product back to the farmer on the website www.andechser-natur.de.
Barbara Scheitz: "I am delighted to have received this special award, which recognises our organic approach. For us, organic farming means biodiversity, soil, groundwater, animal and climate protection. Organic farming provides scientifically proven added value for consumers and has a positive impact on the environment, climate and society."
